Winter sports seasons are nearing an end for youth teams across the state, and many Alexandria programs have seen success this winter.
The Cardinals’ 7th-grade boys basketball team is one of those. Alexandria won the state championship in the Tier 1 bracket over the weekend of March 13. The majority of this group has played together since 4th-grade and the team posted a 25-2 record this winter.

Alexandria was seeded second in the Tier 1 bracket during the state tournament and won the championship with four straight wins. Alexandria beat Wayzata 60-31 in its final game after winning against Eagan (61-38 final), Lakeville North (50-40 final) and Minnetonka (40-32 final).
The team is coached by Forrest Witt and Zach Witt and players at the state tournament were Myles Gray, Beau Jones, Thomas Hinrichs, Spencer Kleindl, Talen Witt, Gavin Roderick and Mason Witt.
