The Osakis girls basketball team (6-6) got back to .500 on Tuesday by going on the road and beating Benson (3-11) in a 42-34 final.

The Silverstreaks built a 24-14 lead by the half and limited the Braves to 27.9% shooting to secure the win.

“Benson was just coming off of a big win the night before (against Montevideo), so we felt it was important to get a good start to the game,” Osakis head coach Pat Kalpin said. “We were able to build an early lead and keep that lead throughout the game. I thought the girls played with great energy on the defensive end and offensively moved the ball well versus a defense we haven't seen in quite awhile.”

Osakis shot 11-of-17 from inside the arch around five made threes. Alexis Johanson had 13 points, while Mara VanNyhuis had eight and Kadyn Triebenbach chipped in six in the post.

“One area we've been stressing as of late is finding different ways to score and getting shots in the paint,” Kalpin said. “I thought our girls looked for those shots, especially in the second half. We still need to work on taking advantage of opportunities when they are there. This is an area that we have improved on, but will still need to focus on as the season winds down. We want to be playing our best basketball these last couple of weeks."
