The West Central Area boys basketball team tested itself against a good Class AA team on Saturday in a non-conference tilt that saw Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (6-2) win by a 50-44 final.
The loss knocked the Knights to 6-3 overall after they had beaten Park Christian (2-8) in a 69-44 game the night before.
“We took a 24-9 lead and gave up a 15-3 run to end the half and then gave up the 13-0 run to end the game,” WCA head coach Kraig Hunter said. “That’s not usually typical of us, so that’s something we have to fix. It seems like having a game the night before with a short turnaround affected us down the stretch as we gave up some crucial offensive boards in the last few minutes.”
Hunter was proud of the defensive effort of his players for much of the game.
The Knights forced 12 turnovers and held the Rebels to 30% shooting (16-53). DGF did hit seven threes and finished 11-of-15 from the free-throw line around a 40-30 rebounding advantage.
The Rebels’ defense was also good, holding WCA to 30% shooting on 17-of-56. The Knights hit eight threes but went just 2-of-8 on free throws.
