The West Central Area girls basketball team went on an 8-4 run to close out its second win of the season on Tuesday night.
After five second-half lead changes, the Knights closed out a 54-50 win over the Wheaton-Herman-Norcross Warriors (2-2) behind another big game from junior Lexi Bright. She scored 32 points and recorded eight steals in the win. Through three games, Bright has 103 total points. Sydney Ulrich had nine points and two rebounds for the Knights as well.
“We overcame a sluggish performance to eke out a win,” WCA head coach Eric Schoenbauer said. “Wheaton played extremely well and probably deserved to win, but our defense came up huge in the last five minutes. I’m not sure if Elizabeth (Rustan) could’ve played any better in that stretch because her defense was phenomenal during that span.”
Rustan finished the game with seven steals and four rebounds. She and the Knights will look to extend their winning streak on Friday at Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley (3-1).
