The first game of the season for the Osakis girls basketball team showed its defensive skill in a 44-19 win over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle. On Thursday night in Upsala, the Silverstreaks found a rhythm offensively in a 70-42 win.
"The girls played very well tonight," head coach Pat Kalpin said. "I felt they brought a ton of energy and got off to a great start in the game. We started the game on a 12-0 run, which helped set the tone for the rest of the game. Defensively, they were able to defend and contest shots. Our rebounding was much improved from the previous game too."
Mara VanNyhuis and Alexis Johanson each had 14 points. Hayleigh Niehoff and Grace Oeltjen each had 10 points. The Silverstreaks forced 19 turnovers, including 10 steals.
"On the offensive end, it was nice to see the balanced scoring with four girls in double figures. We were able to limit our turnovers, which has been a point of emphasis since day one of this season. Overall, a real nice team win for the team."
