The Osakis boys basketball team finally got a chance to honor the players who were responsible for a 25-3 season on May 6 when head coach Matt Hoelscher and his staff recognized a deep lineup that led the way.
Senior guard Daniel Savageau wrapped up his standout career with the Silverstreaks where he finished with 2,020 points by being named team MVP.
Savageau was also the Prairie Conference MVP in a year where five teammates -- Carter Grove, Luke Imdieke, Kobie Lara, Luke Staloch and Bauer Klimek -- joined him on the all-conference team. Savageau led Osakis in assists (116), steals (94), three-point percentage (41.5%) and free-throw percentage (81.2%) on his way to averaging 21.9 points-per game.
Savageau was also an academic all-state award winner, and a member of the All-Section 6AA team with Lara.

Lara also led the Silverstreaks in rebounds with 196, and Grove led the team in two-point field-goal percentage at 62.3%.

Grove was named Osakis’ most-improved player. He provided a lot of energy on both sides of the court on his way to averaging 6.7 points, grabbing 78 rebounds, dishing out 47 assists and getting his hands on 52 steals and 61 deflections.

Imdieke earned the Silverstreaks’ Defensive Player of the Year Award. The senior point guard had 41 steals and 43 deflections. He also averaged 7.6 points a night and was second on the team with 93 assists.

Senior Tyson Lien rounded out the team award winners by being named Osakis’ Silverstreak Award recipient for his positive attitude and effort throughout the entire season.
The Silverstreaks won a fourth straight Prairie Conference championship this winter as they competed a perfect 10-0 record in league play. Through the last four years, Osakis has posted a 94-19 record overall.
This will be a different looking team next winter after the Silverstreaks graduate eight seniors this spring in Imdieke, Lara, Jeff Bartone, Grove, Staloch, Lien, Carter Rost and Savageau.
