Two teams looking to share a Little Eight Conference title with Underwood met on Thursday night, and it was Parkers Prairie that knocked off Brandon-Evansville to accomplish that feat.

The Panthers (15-6, 10-2 LEC) lost to the Chargers (14-10, 9-3) 53-45 on Jan. 10. The rematch was a different story as Parkers Prairie ran out to a 38-19 lead by the break and came away with a 63-48 win.

“It was a tale of two halves tonight,” B-E head coach Zach Traphagen said. “We let their shooters get rolling in the first half and put ourselves in a 19-point hole at the half. Second half, we clawed back into the game and got it down to a 6-point deficit with about five minutes to go but ran out of gas to complete the comeback.”

The Chargers could not get their offense going enough to get over the hump. They shot 28% for the game (19-of-66), including 4-of-13 from three and 6-of-11 from the free-throw line. The Panthers stretched the game out from the line by making 23 free throws.

“You just cannot afford to go down so big early against a good team and give yourselves a good chance to win,” Traphagen said. “Tomorrow is a day to get better so we can put together a full 36-minute effort on Saturday against a good Wheaton team.”

Parkers Prairie junior guard Megan Blake knocked down four threes and finished with a game-high 16 points. Faith Alberts and Emily Benzinger each added 12 points.

Bailey Schaefer led B-E with 15 points. She was the Chargers’ only player in double figures as Kailee Klimek and Brittany Korkowski each added seven points.

The Chargers finished third in the LEC with their 9-3 league mark. Underwood (17-6) and Parkers Prairie both led the league this season at 10-2. The Panthers and Rockets split their two head-to-head match-ups during the regular season.
