Detroit Lakes stuck a lot closer to the Alexandria boys basketball team on its home court than it did on the road back on Dec. 13, but the Cardinals still completed the season sweep of the Lakers on Thursday night.

Alexandria won 90-48 in that opening match-up of the year. It was a single-digit game at the half on Thursday before the Cardinals secured the 68-57 win.

Max Gunderson had 18 points for Detroit Lakes. Gabe Hanninen added 17, and Tate Kerzman finished with 13, but Alexandria’s depth was too much for the Lakers.

The Cardinals again had four players in double figures. That’s become a common trend for Alexandria in its wins this season.

Colton Roderick had 17 points, four assists and four steals. Senior guard Ryan Forster had his best night of the season on a perfect shooting game. He had 13 points, going 2-of-2 from inside the arch and 3-of-3 from three. Erik Hedstrom and Ethan Patience both added 12 points.

The win moved Alexandria to 9-4 overall and to 4-3 against Section 8AAA opponents. St. Cloud Apollo leads all section teams with an 11-1 record overall and a 5-0 mark against 8AAA programs. The Cardinals will host St. Cloud Apollo on Feb. 11.
