The West Central Area boys basketball team got a win in a game that featured a big milestone for Wheaton-Herman-Norcross on Friday night.

The Warriors’ senior guard Matt Thielen became the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,390 points after putting in 18 against the Knights (10-1). It wasn’t near enough to get the win as WCA beat WHN (6-5) 83-48.

“Congratulations to Matt Theilen,” WCA head coach Kraig Hunter said. “He is a great shooter and seems like a classy kid.”

The Knights went on a 30-3 run after the game was tied at 16 apiece to run away with things.

“That stretch was some beautiful basketball with great unselfishness and ball movement,” Hunter said.

Jack Van Kempen had 25 points and 10 rebounds, and Gage Staples finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

“Those two worked very well together on the inside of Wheaton’s zone,” Hunter said.
