The Alexandria girls basketball team made easy work of another Section 8AAA opponent on Thursday night with a road win in Detroit Lakes.

It was the third straight win for Alexandria after the Cardinals (11-3) came home with a 54-30 victory over the Lakers (5-7).

“(We) came out sluggish and out of sync but pulled together as a team to bury the Lakers in the second half,” Alexandria head coach Wendy Kohler said.

Alexandria continues to spread things out offensively. Mia McGrane had a team-high 12 points. Ella Grove added 10. Mataya Hoelscher finished with seven and Lilly Horn and Cate Bloom added six and five points, respectively.

The Cardinals are 7-0 against Section 8AAA opponents now to climb up to the top seed in the section through Minnesota-scores.net’s QRF. Bemidji is close behind at 9-4 overall. The Lumberjacks have lost three of their last four games to Eagan (5-8), Fergus Falls (11-1) and Becker (8-2).

The Cardinals will host a 1-9 Tartan team on Friday night at 7 p.m.
