Brandon-Evansville is coming off a standout season in football that the Chargers hope can carry over into a successful basketball season for the boys this winter.

Brandon-Evansville went 14-13 a year ago and returns most of the regulars from that lineup. Eli Anderson and Abe Huisman were the two seniors lost to graduation, but the Chargers return 11 letter winners. One of those, senior forward Sam Fuller, won’t be able to play this winter as he recovers from a torn ACL in his knee that he suffered earlier this year.

“We will miss Sam greatly this season, but we know he will be a big asset in practices and games,” B-E head coach Trent Hintermeister said.

Guards Keagan Schiele, Marshall Riedel and Seth Stelzer, wing Tony Schaffran and post players Andrew Johnson, Andrew Perrin, Jesse Perleberg and Tanner Bitzan form a big senior class for the Chargers. Sophomores Titus Fuller and Tyler Bitzan are also returning letter winners looking to take on bigger roles on the team this year.

“We hope to see a couple new faces emerge as the season progresses,” Hintermeister said. “We should win more than we lose and be competitive in our games. I want to see who's willing to work hard every single day. The players who are all in for the team goals will be the players you see on the court this season.”

Hintermeister likes the athletes he has to work with on this roster.

“I think we have some athleticism that we can use on both sides of the floor,” he said. “I want to get into people defensively and look to use our athletes in space.”

Hintermeister said staying competitive and maintaining a focus throughout the whole season are areas this team needs to improve on as the year progresses.

The Little Eight Conference and Section 6A fields should both be competitive again. The section had 11 teams with winning records across the North and South subsections last winter.

“Henning is the returning state champions and have many of their best players back this season,” Hintermeister said. “WCA is going to be tough and return most of their players from last season, as well.”
