Girls basketball: Knights keep cruising in win over Ashby

The West Central Area girls basketball team continues to rebound from a 2-3 start to the season.

The Knights have won eight of nine games after breezing past Ashby in an 87-59 game on Jan. 15. The win moved WCA to 10-4 overall and to 7-2 against Section 6A teams.

“The girls played hard tonight and did a nice job rallying together to grow a lead,” WCA head coach Eric Schoenbauer said. “We can still tighten up some loose ends to ensure we put ourselves in the best positions continually in games.”

Ella Van Kempen had a big game with 19 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks. Hailey Bennett finished with 17 points, while Lexi Bright added 14 points and six assists and Brynn Fernholz chipped in 12 points.
