Boys basketball: B-E pushes 6A front-runner Hancock before falling late
The Brandon-Evansville boys basketball team ran into one of the front-runners in the Section 6A field and pushed them to the limited before falling in a 58-54 game against Hancock on Tuesday.
The Chargers (5-5) trailed by four at the half and played even with the Owls (8-1) after halftime.
“The Owls are a good offensive team who have multiple guys who can score,” B-E head coach Trent Hintermeister said. “We did a decent job guarding them, but just didn't put enough stops together. Offensively, our lack of consistency hurt us. We had a run in the first half and a nice run in the second half, but it wasn't enough.”
The Chargers shot 38 percent (20-of-52) from the field. Six players scored, with three of those finishing in double figures.
Freshman guard Titus Fuller had a team-high 15 points. Senior forward Sam Fuller added 14 points and four rebounds, while senior forward Eli Anderson had a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Tanner Bitzan also had nine points, nine rebounds and five assists.
The Chargers will welcome in Underwood (2-7) for a 7:15 p.m. game on Thursday before going to Ashby (5-2) to play a good Arrows team on Jan. 15 at the same time.
