The Brandon-Evansville boys basketball team handed Browerville-Eagle Valley its first loss of the young season on Thursday as the Chargers shot 58 percent in a 63-55 win.
Brandon-Evansville led by just one at the break but put up 34 second-half points. That helped the Chargers up their record to 2-1 as they bounced back from a 28-point loss to Henning from two nights earlier.
“I thought we came out with a little more fire tonight than we had the other two games this season,” B-E head coach Trent Hintermeister said. “We talked about some adjustments during our halftime, and the players did a nice job doing those things in the second half.”
The Chargers led by 11 with seven minutes left in the game. The Tigers (2-1) wouldn’t go away as they cut the deficit back to single digits.
Brandon-Evansville’s depth paid off in the end as the Chargers put three players in double figures. Senior Eli Anderson led the way with 14 points on 4-of-5 shooting. Freshman guard Titus Fuller had 12 points, while Tanner Bitzan had 11 points, 14 rebounds and five assists.
“We have to do a better job of closing out games when we get the chance,” Hintermeister said. “We are continuing to learn, and have to do so quickly with a very good opponent coming to our gym on Tuesday night in Hillcrest.”
Hillcrest Lutheran Academy won its season opener by 26 points over Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley on Thursday night. The Comets will tip off against Brandon-Evansville at 7:15 p.m. before the Chargers then go to the Kimball Tournament on Dec. 14.
