Basketball: Zion Lutheran School Cougars 7th-8th grade team makes state again

The Cougars are 9-4 this season and begin the tournament in St. Paul on 5:40 p.m. on Friday.

ALEXANDRIA - For the second straight year, the Zion Lutheran Cougars 7th-8th grade basketball team is headed back to the MN State Lutheran Basketball Tournament at Concordia University in St. Paul.

The tournament is made up of the top Lutheran grade school teams from around the state.

The Cougars are one of 16 teams that have made the tournament, and they will be representing the LCMS MN-North District.

They’ll face off against Bloomington Living Hope Lutheran School to begin the tournament on Friday at 5:40 p.m.

The tournament is a double elimination format and runs from Friday to Sunday. A full bracket can be found on the Zion Lutheran School Facebook page.

The Cougars are 9-4 overall this season, and the program is headed to the state Lutheran tournament for the fifth time in the last 10 seasons.

The team consists of six 8th-graders, four 7th-graders, four 6th-graders, one student manager, and they have five cheerleaders.
