Baseball: Late run propels Sauk Rapids over Alexandria

The Alexandria baseball team had a five-game winning streak snapped in Sauk Rapids on Monday as the Storm scored a run in the sixth inning with the help of two errors to secure a 3-2 win.

The Cardinals (11-3, 9-2 Central Lakes Conference) led 2-0 after single runs in the third and fourth innings. Isaac Peterson drove in Tate Breitkreutz on a groundout in the third, and Luke Levasseur scored on a wild pitch in the fourth.

The Storm (6-8, 6-3 CLC) responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie it. Cullen Krueger got the big hit with a two-run single with two outs.

Matthew Carlsen started on the mound for Alexandria and took a tough-luck loss. He threw all six innings, scattering seven hits and allowing two earned runs. He struck out nine and walked nobody. Trygve Hanson got the win with a complete-game performance as he gave up just six hits and no walks, allowing just one earned run.

Alexandria junior Kade Loge continues to hit the ball well in recent games as he upped his season average to .389 with a .421 on-base percentage after going 2-of-3 from the plate.

Alexandria still leads the CLC by a game over Brainerd (11-5, 8-3 CLC) heading into a matchup against St. Cloud Apollo (8-7, 5-6 CLC) today, Tuesday, at the MAC in St. Cloud with a 3:30 p.m. first pitch.
