The Brandon-Evansville baseball team won its fifth straight game on Friday night by sweeping a doubleheader with Hillcrest Lutheran Academy.
The Chargers (12-5, 7-5 Pheasant Conference) won the nightcap 14-4 on 12 hits after breezing through the opener by a 13-0 final on 11 hits. Zack Haugen and Jayden Hoidahl combined to toss a five-inning no-hitter in game one. Haugen struck out six in three innings before Hoidahl worked the final two frames and struck out two, allowing just one walk.
“Zack and Jayden both had good control of their pitches and their defense played errorless ball behind them,” B-E head coach Brian Perleberg said.
Marshall Riedel, Kyle Schaffran, Corbin Olson and Tanner Bitzan all had multi-hit games.
Gaven Jacobson, Riedel and Schaffran did the same in game two, while Dezmond White, Jesse Perleberg (2B), Bitzan (2B), Keagan Schiele (2B), Schaffran and Andrew Perrin all added hits, as well. The Chargers blew things open early with a nine-run first inning after the Comets (0-8) had scored three in the top of the first.
Schaffran allowed three runs on four hits and a walk in three innings on the mound. Perleberg threw the final two frames, allowing one run on two hits and a walk.
“Hillcrest came out and put the ball in play much better in the second game as they put three runs on the board right away,” coach Perleberg said. “Fortunately, we responded with a rally of our own in the bottom half of the inning.”
