Baseball: Osakis shuts out Browerville

Mason Moore

The Osakis baseball team shut out Browerville 9-0 on Tuesday night.

Junior Hunter Infanger had another stellar performance on the mound. He pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing just two hits and struck out nine batters.

“We were able to only allow four runners to get in scoring position the entire game,” Osakis head coach Shad Schmidt said. “We also kept them at bay by being able to pick off a runner. We did leave too many guys on the base ourselves, but I feel like we are close to breaking through in those situations.”

Junior Mason Moore had a great day at the plate. He went 2-for-3 with a home run in the top of the seventh inning. Moore had two RBIs.

Osakis was able to take advantage of the mistakes Browerville made on the mound in the first two innings. The Silverstreaks scored five runs on just two hits.

“We got an early lead, then kind of went stale in the middle innings,” Schmidt said. “We had really good at-bats from guys like Luke Staloch. Mason hitting the team’s first home run sparked us a little late in the game, which was fun to see.”

Osakis added some insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Senior Logan Hartshorn drove in sophomore Waylon Muenzhuber with a single. Muenzhuber reached base with a pinch-hit single of his own. Freshman Bauer Klimek came on in relief of Infanger to get the final two outs of the game. The win move Osakis to 5-1 overall on the season.

“We did a nice job of being patient at the plate and taking advantage of their mistakes. We played solid defense and Hunter did a nice job on the mound again,” Schmidt said. “We moved some guys around and have some younger guys getting more playing time due to an injury, and I have been happy with the way they have been playing. This was a good answer coming of our first loss.”

The Silverstreaks will hit the road again on Thursday when they travel to Pequot.
