ALEXANDRIA — The Minnesota Baseball Association Region 16C playoff bracket is set for local amateur teams as the tournament gets going this coming weekend.
The opening round of the tournament is single elimination before the format switches to double elimination for those who advance to the second round. The Fergus Falls Hurricanes, Urbank Bombers, Sauk Centre Titans and Breckenridge Bucks all earned byes into the second round after strong regular seasons.
The Alexandria Black Sox, the defending region champions , open up the playoffs on Saturday in Kensington against the Long Prairie Predators at 5 p.m. The Kensington Norsemen and Osakis Hawks start the three games in Kensington that day with an 11 a.m. game, and the Dent Wildcats and Ashby A’s play at 2 p.m.
The Carlos Cougars will play the Pelican Rapids Lakers in an 8 p.m. game in Carlos on Saturday to round out the first-round matchups.
The winners of Saturday’s games turn right around and play on Sunday. Fergus Falls faces the winner of Osakis and Kensington in Kensington at 1 p.m. Urbank takes on the winner of Dent and Ashby at 4 p.m.

In Carlos on Sunday, the Sauk Centre Titans play either Pelican Rapids or Carlos at 1 p.m. Breckenridge plays the winner of Alexandria and Long Prairie at 4 p.m.
The region tournament will continue the following weekend on Aug. 6-7. The championship game is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Aug. 13 in Kensington.
Both of the teams that advance to the region championship will move on to the Class C state tournament.
This year’s state tournament is being played across three venues at Memorial Park in Dundas, Bell Field in Faribault and Jack Ruhr Field is Miesville. The tournament will span three weekends from Aug. 19-21, Aug. 26-28 and Sept. 2-5.
