Alexandria Blue Anchors pitcher Jason Zgardowski posted some good numbers this summer season and recently was signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Phillies organization.

Zgardowski pitched in the Northwoods League’s Big League Dreams Showcase in Madison on August 5 where players had a chance to showcase their stuff in front of some Major League scouts.
“I came in, threw like 93-95,” Zgardowski said in a release by the Blue Anchors. “I felt pretty good about it. A day later, [a Phillies scout] gave me a call and asked if I was interested in joining the club.”
With the signing, Zgardowski became the second Blue Anchors pitcher this season to sign professionally. Onas Farfan did as well after being drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the June draft. Farfan has a 4.80 ERA in 15 innings pitched in the Rookie Gulf Coast League.
Zgardowski started 12 games for the Blue Anchors this summer as a pitcher out of Angelo State University. The San Antonio, Texas native was 2-7 but posted an ERA of 3.77 in 62 innings pitched. He had 33 strikeouts to go along with 22 walks.
Zgardowski’s attempts to now climb his way through the Philadelphia organization will start almost immediately. The hard-throwing righthander will start preparing for rookie ball by going to Clearwater, Florida where the Phillies’ spring training facility is located.
