The Alexandria fifth grade girls basketball team recently finished second at the Pacesetter Great Five-State Hoops Tournament.
Qualifying for the tournament allows teams to play at the Target Center, where the Bismarck Energy won a 31-21 game against Alexandria in the championship. Alexandria advanced to that championship game by beating Winner, SD in a 19-13 final and Cedar Rapids Jefferson out of Iowa in a 36-31 game.
Players for Alexandria were Addie Rossum, Hadley Thul, Allie Haabala, Ella Regnier, MaCee Lino and Skylor Hedstrom. Coaches are Leah Thul and Carla Haabala.
Fourth graders third at Great Five-State Tournament
A group of Alexandria fourth graders also played in the Great Five-State Pacesetter Tournament June 29-30 and finished third.

Alexandria won its final game over Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton at the Target Center. The tournament consisted of eight teams that qualified out of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Wisconsin.
Alexandria won a 20-19 game against Stewartville earlier in the tournament and lost a 26-9 game against Minot, North Dakota. Players for the Cardinals were Lauren Beyer, Kendra Wolf, McKenna Ostendorf, Kali Frecking, Izzy Gerhardt, Meadow Zimpel, Kate Hennesey and Ava Staples. Natalie Beyer, Brent Wolf and Jess Hennesey coached the team.
