Alexandria falls to Spuds in home opener

Moorhead was too much for the Alexandria boys track and field team as they come away with a 77-55 win in the opening meet of the season.

The Alexandria boys track and field team ran into a good Moorhead team in the season opener on Saturday.

Despite six Alexandria first-place finishes, the Spuds came away with a 77-55 win in the first meet of the regular season.

Alexandria senior AJ Sparr had an impressive afternoon in hurdle events and the pole vault. He took first place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.11 before finishing second in the 300-meter hurdle race (44.90). Sparr took third in the pole vault by clearing nine feet.

Nolan Morical showed off his versatility with four top-three finishes. He led all runners in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.10 seconds. He also anchored Alexandria’s second-place 4x100-meter relay behind Teagan Pfeffer, Christian Doumbia and Nicholas Huss (45.03). Morical took second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.40 seconds and first in the high jump at five and a half feet.

Morcial’s relay teammate, Pfeffer, also impressed by taking first in the long jump (18-04.75). Jack Theien ran a first-place time in the 400-meter dash in 53.48 seconds. Huss led all pole-vaulters at 10 and a half feet.

Joseph Lanoux led Alexandria’s throwers. He took third in the discus (113-08) and second in the shot put (44-04)
