Alexandria duos advance to Section 8AA doubles
Alexandria doubles advance while singles fall in the subsection tournament.
Seniors Gannon Lueck and Jacob Partington haven’t played a doubles match together all season, but they did enough on May 28 to move on to the second stage of the individual doubles section tournament.
The Section 8AA-North’s top-seeded doubles team beat Bemidji’s John McNallan and Casey Rupp 6-4, 7-5 before taking down teammates Pieter Mulder and Andrew Wegner. Lueck and Partington earned the top seed at the Section 8AA tournament next Thursday with a 3-6, 7-6 (8), 6-2 win over Michael Dickinson and Logan Jenson of Bemidji to win the subsection championship.
Wegner and Mulder advanced to the section tournament as the fourth-seed despite a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Brainerd’s Beck Barber and RJ Campbell. Wegner and Mulder got a first-round bye and then beat their opponent from Detroit Lakes in a 6-1, 7-5 final in the second round.
