The Alexandria softball team put up double-digit runs for the ninth time in 14 total games this season as the Cardinals (11-3) swept Sauk Rapids-Rice in 17-1 and 15-11 finals on Thursday.
Alexandria gave the Storm (1-6) no chance in the nightcap after scoring 12 runs in the top of the first inning. The Cardinals had 13 hits in that one and played error-free defense behind Josie Steidl, who allowed one run on four hits and two walks, while striking out four.
Emily Harris had a day to remember at the plate with two home runs, five RBIs and four runs scored. Emma Magaard tripled twice and Aubrie Porter also tripled as part of a three-RBI game.
Chloe Loch had three RBIs in the opener. Maddie Buboltz and Kinzie Johnson both doubled as Alexandria used eight hits and six Sauk Rapids’ errors to win despite the Storm putting up an 11-run inning in the top of the fifth. The Cardinals immediately bounced back from that with seven runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Alexandria is at St. Cloud Apollo next on May 11 with a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.
