Alexandria boys keep testing themselves against section rivals as Cards take second in Brainerd

Freshmen duo leads Alexandria.

The Alexandria boys golf team was in Brainerd on May 12 where the Cardinals finished second in a 12-team field after scoring a 320.

Brainerd also shot a 320, while fellow Section 8-3A foe Moorhead won the invite with a 307. The Spuds’ Ian Simonich cruised to the medalist honors with a 69. Arthur Ylitalo of Buffalo and Cole Proctor of Brainerd were second after each shot a 76.

The freshmen duo of Bennett Olsen and Jack Holtz led Alexandria. They tied for eighth with a 79, while sophomore Braeden Sladek was 11th after shooting an 80.

Senior Grant Rebrovich shot an 82 to finish off the Cardinals’ scoring, and 8th-grader Carver Larson (86) and senior Wyatt Cavers (90) rounded out the lineup.

The Cardinals have a bit of a break between meets now after a busy stretch. They are at the Territory Golf Club in St. Cloud on May 17 with a 1 p.m. start time.
