Both the Alexandria boys and girls track and field teams are sitting in a good position after their Section 8-3A True Team qualifier meet, but the Cardinals won’t know exactly if they will earn a state bid to True Team until Saturday.

That is when results for all of the teams in the section will be final. Alexandria was in Brainerd on May 18 where the Cardinals faced off against the Warriors, Willmar and St. Cloud Apollo in their portion of the meet. Teams are broken up across the section in order to limit the number of athletes competing at one venue during the pandemic.

The Alexandria boys won their quadrangular on Tuesday with 353 total points, while the Alexandria girls won with 413.5 points.

Brainerd (340), Willmar (325.5) and Apollo (212.5) rounded out the boys’ field, while the Brainerd girls were second with 361.5 points, and Willmar (293.5) and St. Cloud Apollo (134.5) followed suit.

Check back later in the week to see if Alexandria's finishes were enough to win a Section 8-3A championship after all of the section’s results are compiled in a virtual meet.
