Adapted bowling: Alexandria ready to roll after lost season

The Cardinals adapted bowling team has some good leadership back with state tournament experience as this program looks to create another memorable spring.

Members of the Alexandria adapted bowling team look forward to their spring season as much as any athlete out there, so the Cardinals are ready to go after having the season canceled in 2020.

“Our bowlers have been waiting for the season to start since last spring, so to say our bowlers are ready to roll would be an understatement,” head coach Wade Traphagen said. “We are bringing back a very passionate group of kids this year.”

The Cardinals have four seniors on the team in Liam Olson, Evan Larson, Robert Goor and Grace Johannes. They are part of an entire roster made up of 19 athletes this spring.

Goor, Olson, Larson, Johannes, Sebastian Billings, Trenton Tuey, Joe Mello, Lizzie Floden, and Logan Usher all return with prior experience.

“We have strong upperclassmen leadership with a good deal of state tournament experience,” Traphagen said. “We also have a lot of potential in our younger bowlers, so getting them as many reps as possible is essential.”

Bowlers across the state will not have a qualifying round to determine which athletes make the state tournament at the end of the season. The state tournament will also be a virtual meet due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Traphagen wants to make sure coaches get 100% out of their athletes every day so they can enjoy the entire experience of being back this season.

“As we found out last year, it can all get taken away in the blink of an eye,” Traphagen said. “We will take nothing for granted and need to make the most out of every opportunity that is presented…(We’ll) make sure we stay consistent with our approach, timing, and delivery. We will need to redevelop good habits after almost a year away from the game.”
