The Alexandria dance team is entering the stretch run of its season after taking part in the Central Lakes Conference championship meet at Rocori on Jan. 11 and then hosting a home quadrangular on Jan. 16.

The Cardinals’ quad featured Sauk Centre, Moorhead and an Osakis team in its first season fielding a dance program. Alexandria’s junior varsity team took third in jazz, while the varsity team finished second in both kick and jazz to Moorhead.

“It was a great night of competition with the Alexandria teams all having their best performances to date,” head coach Kassandra Gibbons said. “Alexandria placed second in varsity kick and jazz behind Moorhead, missing the top spot by only 1 rank point in both styles. It was a great night for the local teams with a big home crowd to cheer them on.”

The CLC championship meet saw Sartell win the league title in kick and tie with Brainerd for the championship in jazz. Alexandria was seventh in the high kick and in jazz.

“The Central Lakes Conference is a tough one in the sport of dance, with some of the biggest Class AA state contenders in our section, including Sartell, a multiple-time state champion, Rocori, and St. Cloud Tech,” Gibbons said. “Brainerd and Sauk Rapids also have made countless state appearances in class AAA.”

Spots on the all-conference team were up for grabs, and the Cardinals had seniors Kaylee Suckstorff and Autumn Botz honored as All-CLC dancers in the high kick. Juniors Maddie Holtz and Caris Pass were honorable-mention dancers.

Botz also earned that All-CLC honor in jazz, while Holtz and Pass were again honorable mention.

The Cardinals have two more competitions on the schedule before the Section 4AA meet on Feb. 1 at Monticello. Alexandria will be in Bemidji on Jan. 23 before an invite in Monticello on Jan. 25 that starts at 10:30 a.m.
