Alexandria’s Kaisa Bosek is in the midsts of competing at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne, Switzerland, and she is leading the way for Team USA among the women.

Bosek, a junior who is one of the top skiers for the Alexandria Nordic ski team, was one of six biathlon athletes who were nominated in late August by the U.S. Biathlon Association for the Youth Olympic Games.

Bosek’s first competition in Switzerland came in the Women’s 10K Individual race on Jan. 11. She finished that race 18th overall out of 97 athletes and as the top finisher for the United States. She was especially strong on the shooting course where she missed just two targets. Here Team USA teammates Margaret Madigan and Maja Lapkass were 55th and 69th, respectively, in the 10K Individual race.

Bosek raced again on Jan. 14 in the Women’s 6K Sprint race where she finished 55th out of 97 biathletes. That made her the top USA finisher once again in the race, with Madigan finishing 65th and Lapkass 70th.

Russian athletes Alena Mokhova and Anastasiia Zenova took the top two spots in the 6K Sprint race. Mokhova was also the winner of the 10K individual race on Jan. 11.

In relay races, Bosek teamed up with Team USA member Van Ledger in the Single Mixed race on Jan. 12. They finished 21st out of 30 teams.

Bosek is also scheduled to race in the four-person mixed relay on Jan. 15 with Madigan and male Team USA members Etienne Bordes and Cale Woods.
