The Alexandria softball team named catcher Sydney Christenson its MVP after a 12-11 season this past spring.
Christenson had a season batting average of .329 with 13 RBI's and a .405 on-base percentage. Christenson was an all-state and CLC Senior Academic Award winner and was named to the CLC All-Conference team.
Joria Downing and Brookelyn Stender both won the Most Improved Award after moving into more prominent roles on varsity this past season.
Alexandria had several academic award winners this spring. Along with Christenson, Kendra Hardy also was given the CLC Senior and All-State Academic awards. Callista Bergquist was the third Cardinal to be honored by the Central Lakes Conference academically.
The Cardinals had seven players who were recognized within the conference for their play on the field. Christenson, Hardy and Ally Albers were selected for the all-conference team, while Sidney Drew, Autumn Botz, Emily Harris and Taylor Sayre were honorable mentions.
Albers and Sayre were named to the All-Section 8AAA team. Albers had a batting average of .354 and led the team in hits with 28. She also had a good year in the pitching circle with an earned run average of 2.97 and a 2-3 record.
Sayre led the starters in batting average at .356 and runs scored with 24. She also drove in 14 runs and had 26 hits on the season.
Alexandria graduated four seniors this spring. The 2020 group should be a senior-heavy roster with this year's team featuring seven juniors.
