Two Alexandria youth basketball teams recently came back from state Pacesetter tournaments with runner-up finishes.

The Alexandria boys fifth-graders competed at Maple Grove on June 9 and qualified for the Great Five-State Championships June 14-16 at the Target Center and Maple Grove by finishing second in the state tournament.

Alexandria defeated Stewartville by a 39-23 final and Roseau in a 51-32 game to reach the finals. They matched up with Jackson County Central in the title game and fell by a 33-27 final.

Team members for Alexandria are Taylan Witt, Mason Witt, Beau Jones, Thomas Hinrichs, Myles Gray, Gavin Roderick, Camden Kosters and Maxwell Janssen. The coach of the team is Zach Witt.

The Alexandria girls fourth-grade team also took second in their state tournament in Maple Grove on June 9 to qualify for the Great Five-State Championships June 14-16.

The girls beat Mountain Iron-Buhl 29-6 and Kimball 38-4 before running into Hawley in a 39-24 loss in the championship at state.

Team members for the Alexandria girls are McKinley Hoelscher, Gretta Kelly, Avery Ketelsen, Erin Cross, Malia Sayre, Abby Evink, Kierra Ostendorf and Lila Radach. The coach of the team is Kayla Hoelscher.
