The Alexandria softball team has pulled itself out of a tough start to the season to get back above .500 with a doubleheader sweep of St. Cloud Tech on Thursday.

The Cardinals were 2-7 after May 9. Since then, they have won eight of their last nine and five in a row after beating the Tigers (5-15) 16-3 and 8-4 in eighth innings on Thursday.

Alexandria (10-8, 6-6 Central Lakes Conference) dominated offensively in the two games. The Cardinals pounded out 15 hits in the nightcap and got a home run from Autumn Botz, two triples from Sydney Drew, two doubles from Kendra Hardy and another double from Sydney Christenson. Ally Albers and Botz both drove in two runs to help Hardy get the win from the circle.

The Tigers rallied late, scoring four unearned runs through the sixth and seventh innings. Alexandria did commit seven errors in game two, which allowed Tech to tie things at four apiece, but a four-run top of the eighth ended it. Drew tripled in Hardy to get the scoring started in the inning, while Kaci Trosvig singled in a run and Albers drove in two more with a hit.

The Cardinals had 18 more hits in the opener. Taylor Sayre highlighted that with a grand slam that left her with a 2-for-4 game with the four RBIs and three runs scored. Albers added four hits, while Payton Boesl had three and Drew and Joria Downing each had two.

Alexandria has climbed to fourth in the Section 8AAA QRF seedings through Minnesota-scores.net. The Cardinals will get a good test to end the regular season tonight, Friday, when Rocori comes to town for a 5 p.m. first pitch. The Spartans are 13-5 and 10-3 in the CLC, including a 3-0 win over Alexandria on April 26.
