Alex Figure Skating Club's 40th anniversary show coming this weekend
The Alexandria Figure Skating Club is hosting its 40th anniversary show over the course of two days at the Runestone Community Center this weekend.
The April 13 show starts at 7 p.m., while Sunday's performance is set for 2 p.m. The show, called INFINITY, will feature many of the skaters in the Alexandria Figure Skating Club from ages 3 through adults, with skills ranging from beginners to advanced skaters.
"Our skaters work hard all year taking lessons, competing in competitions, taking tests, and just plain having fun," Kris Juettner of the Alexandria Figure Skating Club said. "The highlight is their annual show so they can showcase what they have learned all year long. A special number this year will include some of our AFSC skaters' fathers in a father/daughter number."
The show at the RCC will also feature guest skater Sophie Leither. Leither, now a senior in high school, has been skating since she was 5 and is a double gold medalist in competition. She currently works as a Learn To Skate USA instructor at the Starlight Ice Dance Club of Minneapolis.
"She is the 2019 Minnesota State Senior Ladies Silver Medalist, as well as the 2019 Bette Snuggerud Award winner," Juettner said. "The Bette Snuggerud Award is given to the Senior level skater with the highest combined GPA and Minnesota State placement. She was also the 2019 Minnesota State Junior Ladies Bronze Medalist. Sophie competed nationally with her synchronized skating team, the Northernettes, competing at the national championships in both 2018 and 2019."
The 40th anniversary show is open to the public. Tickets can be purchased at a discount for adults for $10 before the show at Scandanavian Gift Shop or Juettner Motors in Alexandria. Cost at the door is $12 for adults and admission is $5 for students.
