The Alexandria Blizzard is in a must-win situation heading home on Saturday night after the Granite City Lumberjacks handed the Blizzard a 6-1 loss in game one of the West Division playoffs on Friday.

Top-seeded Granite City took advantage of its chances. Alexandria outshot the Lumberjacks 26-25, but Granite City blew things open with five unanswered goals in the final two periods. Three of those came in the second frame.

Grant Troumbly was the catalyst for the Lumberjacks as he finished with a hat trick and an assist. Hunter Schwehr, Trevor Dummer and Jack Flattum each added goals, as well.

Alexandria’s lone goal came from Dylan Giorgio at 9:33 in the first. Brett Meister and Val Popowski assisted on the power-play score. That gave the Blizzard a 1-0 lead, but Troumbly got the first of his three goals at 18:10 in the opening frame to tie things after one.

Kyle Hayden took the loss for Alexandria in net. He had 19 saves and the six goals allowed. David Mulligan stopped 25 of the 26 shots he faced for the win.
