The Alexandria boys and girls Nordic ski teams had the rare task of skiing the Central Lakes Conference meet after the section meet this season due to weather postponing the CLC championship in Fergus Falls until Monday.
That meant that many of these skiers knew they would be racing in their final competition of the season. For the Cardinals, they brought home second-place finishes by both the boys and girls teams.
The Alexandria boys finished tied for second with Fergus Falls as both teams ended up with 376 points. Brainerd won the meet with 394.
Noah Struck had the top finish for Alexandria as he was second overall in the skate race in 13:38. Sam Maier (ninth, 14:48), Ryker Bosek (11th, 15:14) and Bjorn Karlstad (12th, 15:17) also skied in the skate race for the Cardinals.
Brian Denke led the Cardinals in the classic race by taking seventh in 16:37. Nathan Halstead was 10th in 17:18, and Jack Struck (15th, 19:08) and Spencer Johnson (16th, 19:53) rounded out the lineup.
The Alexandria girls were second with 392 points, just one behind Brainerd at 393 as the Warriors took home the CLC title.
Stormy Hegg had Alexandria’s top finish as the senior won the skate race in 14:34. That was right in front of teammate Kaisa Bosek, who was second in 14:37. Emma Reineke was seventh in skate in 16:35 and Lauren Englund was 13th in 18:25.
Junior Bethany Miller paced Alexandria in the classic race. She was second in 17:28. Kamryn Coauette was seventh in that race in 19:00. Cameo Neumann was 14th in 20:47 and Dulce Bakker rounded out the classic lineup in 15th (20:54).
Hegg, Kaisa Bosek and Miller all have one race left this season as they get ready for the state meet in Biwabik on Feb. 14.
