The Alexandria boys soccer team pushed a 12-4 Brainerd squad on Monday night in the regular-season finale, but fell by a 1-0 score.

Nick Whiteman netted the only goal of the game. It came on a penalty kick in the second half as both teams battled through wet and sloppy conditions. The Cardinals had 10 shot opportunities, while the Warriors sent 14 shots at Zach Wosepka.

Alexandria finished at 4-12 overall and as the sixth seed in the 10-team 8A-South field. The Cardinals will open the tournament on the road this Thursday, likely at Little Falls (11-4-1) or Sartell-St. Stephen (6-6-3). Both those teams are right next to each other in the QRF rankings that are made final on Oct. 10 through Minnesota-scores.net.
