The Alexandria girls soccer team got just one goal on Senior Night, but that was enough in a 1-0 win over Willmar.

That lone goal came with 40 seconds left in the game when Hailey Eggebraaten sent in a corner kick. The ball was knocked to the ground, where sophomore defender Georgia Reemts pounced on it and sent it home from 18 yards out for her first varsity goal.

“Georgia played a solid game after being switched from a middle defender to an outside defender,” Alexandria head coach Tom Roos said.

The Alexandria defense and eighth-grade goalie Sophia Vinje took things from there. Alexandria allowed just four shots on goal, and Vinje turned aside all of them for the shutout.

The win moved Alexandria to 7-7-1 on the season and to 7-3 in the Central Lakes Conference. Willmar fell to 5-9 and 3-7 in the CLC.

Alexandria seniors Kaye Paschka, Georgia Lussenhop, McKenna Ellingson, Abby Johnson, Olivia Kopp and Lizzie Schoenrock were also honored in a pre-game ceremony on Senior Night.

Willmar stumps Alex boys

The Alexandria boys soccer team could not keep up with a 9-4-1 Willmar team on Tuesday in a 6-1 game that dropped Alexandria to 4-11.

Willmar scored early and often, putting up five first-half goals. Hamza Muhumed, Cesar Leiva and Carlos Robles made it 3-0, and Robles and Leiva each scored another goal before the break to make it 5-0. Robles added a second-half goal to complete the hat trick.

Alexandria’s only goal came from Holden Hanson in the 64th minute. Willmar outshot the Cardinals 20-7 as Zach Wosepka made 14 saves for Alexandria and Willmar’s Zach Courtney had five saves.
