Girls hockey: Cardinals win fifth straight
The Alexandria girls hockey team is running off a bunch of wins again as the Cardinals won their fifth straight with a 2-1 victory over Willmar on Thursday.
McKenna Ellingson and Kristin Trosvig both scored in the second period to give Alexandria a 2-0 lead. That got the job done as Willmar's Serena Monson scored the only goal of the third period less than two minutes in.
That was the only blemish for Amanda Bittmann in net. The sophomore goaltender stopped 14 shots to up her record to 10-3 with a .921 save percentage and a 1.52 goals against average.
The Cardinals, who at one point this season dropped five of six games, are now up to 13-6 on the season with a 6-4 record in the Central Lakes Conference. That is third in league play.
Alexandria is back at the Runestone Community Center for a doubleheader with the Alexandria boys hockey team tonight, Friday. The Cardinals host Rogers (9-6-3) at 5:15 p.m.
