Blizzard hockey: Granite City dominates in an 8-2 final at the RCC
The Alexandria Blizzard’s two-game winning streak over Granite City came to a close on Friday night as the West-Division leading Lumberjacks came to town and left with an 8-2 win at the Runestone Community Center.
Granite City (11-6, 22 points) never trailed in this one as the Lumberjacks put up one goal in the first period before exploding for three in the second and four more in the third. They outshot the Blizzard (7-8, 14 points) 42-33, including 20-8 in the middle frame. Braden Altena and Seth Towers each had two goals to lead the way.
Alexandria’s goals came from Logan Nelson and Brenden Payne. Nelson’s made it a 4-1 game in the second period after Granite City had already scored three goals in the period. Payne’s goal came on the power play late in the third with the game already in hand for the Lumberjacks.
Kyle Hayden took the loss in net for Alexandria after allowing four goals on 16 shots faced in 27 minutes, 50 seconds of playing time. Brady Meyers came on in the second period and allowed four more goals on 26 shots faced the rest of the way.
These two teams will face off again tonight, Saturday, when Alexandria goes on the road to face the Lumberjacks in a 7:30 start time.
