After a 4-3 loss to Holy Family Catholic High School in the semifinals round of the Class A state tournament, the Osakis girls tennis team played Rochester Lourdes for the third place slot. The Eagles won 6-1, giving Osakis the fourth place trophy.


The Eagles took every point except for first doubles. Seniors Kali Giesler and Karlee Hoffarth won a two-set victory over Sydney Elliott and Maria Topel, 6-4, 6-2.


Camryn Hoffarth and Kiara Hensley fell in second doubles to Stephanie Pedersen and Ryann Witter, 6-0, 6-2. Melissa Stocker and Karin Hayford took third doubles over Dinara Dykema and Mara VanNyhuis, 6-4, 7-6(5).


Freshman Tia Dykema lost first doubles to Clare Palen, 6-1, 6-2. The Eagles’ Natalie Allison shut junior Shea Olson out in the second singles matchup. Jane Spading took the fourth singles point for Rochester Lourdes by beating Alexa Lien, 6-0, 6-2.


Lauren Scherr pushed the third singles match to three sets after winning the first set, but Molly Belda ultimately took the point with a close 5-7(4), 6-3, 10-8 win.


This final season match gives Osakis an overall record of 21-4.
