Osakis and Minnewaska tennis athletes advanced to state competition with top-two finishes in the Section 6A singles and doubles tournaments on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 16 and 17.

Minnewaska doubles teams Anna Vold and Greta Reichmann and Hannah Orlowski and Maddie Thorfinnson made it to the finals of the Section 6A doubles tournament for a Lakers face-off.

Vold and Reichmann, the top seed in the tournament, triumphed over Orlowski and Thorfinnson in a 6-2, 6-0 victory for the championship. The Minnewaska finals showdown was preceded by Vold and Reichmann defeating La qui Parle Valley 6-2, 6-2 and two shutouts against MACCRAY and Morris in the first three rounds of tournament play.

Orlowski and Thorfinnson beat Yellow Medicine East in the first round 6-2, 6-2. They defeated Shea Olson and Carlee Hoffarth of Osakis 6-2, 6-4 in the second round and a duo from Benson in a closer match, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 in the third round.

Osakis' Tia Dykema helped send the Silverstreaks tennis team to the state tournament. Now she'll play in the state singles tournament, as well.

Dykema, a freshman top singles player for Osakis, finished second in the Section 6A singles tournament on Tuesday. She was the lone state qualifier for Osakis.

Dykema lost to Danielle Thorfinnson of Minnewaska 6-0, 6-1 in the finals. That's after Dykema had beaten Thorfinnson in the team portion of the section tournament to secure the Silverstreaks' spot at state.

"Danielle played lights out last night," Osakis head coach Ryan Maddock said of the rematch.

Dykema beat Montevideo's Kori Douglas in the semifinals, 6-0, 6-1. That came after 6-0, 6-0 wins over opponents from Yellow Medicine East and MACCRAY in her opening two rounds.

The Class A state doubles and singles tournaments will be played from Oct. 26-27 at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
