Senior center plans to reopen

Activity reservations open Sept. 14

Closed since March, the Alexandria Senior Center has announced it is planning to reopen to the public on Thursday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Seniors are especially vulnerable to COVID-19, so the center said it is taking special precautions to keep everyone safe. That includes limiting the numbers allowed inside, and asking visitors to make reservations 24 hours in advance.

Reservation for members begins Monday, Sept. 14, and for non-members on Monday, Sept. 21. Reservations can be emailed to info@alexsrctr.org or made by calling 320-762-2087.

There will be no sharing of food, beverages or supplies, and the center asks everyone to mask up and maintain social distancing.

Regular groups that are restarting are quilt and sew, billiards, card recycling and bingo. Foot care will also start again in October, and several art classes are scheduled for the Lorsung Art Studio. Billiard players must bring their own cue stick and chalk, and bingo players must bring their own daubers or buy them at the senior center. New activities include bunco and trivia challenges.

The center is looking for volunteers to take temperatures and wipe chairs and tables, and to help with an Oct. 10 meatball fundraiser. It also welcomes donations of Chlorox wipes, face masks and Lysol spray and is accepting contributions to pay its monthly bills, as it has not been able to hold fundraisers since March.
