Sanford hosting 5K to raise money for foodbanks

Overwhelming demand has reduced inventory at Feeding America

A Sanford nutrition program is hosting its first Walk/Run/Bike 5K from Thursday-Sunday, May 13-16.

The virtual event will raise money for Feeding America, the largest hunger-relief organization in the United States that provides meals to more than 40 million people each year. Sanford says the organization's network of 200 foodbanks have been overwhelmed with increased demand and reduced inventories.

Sanford's nutrition program, called Profile by Sanford, has designed the event for all skill levels to encourage individuals and families to get active.

The Profile 5K Any Way encourages participants to finish a 5K race in any way possible. For some, this may be walking over a period of days, while others may bike across the finish line.
