The Alexandria girls swimming and diving team put together one of its best seasons in program history in the fall, which meant the Cardinals had plenty to honor during their postseason banquet.

Five different athletes earned team awards as senior Hattie Galloway earned the team’s Cardinal Award. Galloway wrapped up a standout career for Alexandria by qualifying for the Class A state meet in four events -- the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200-freestyle relay and 400-freestyle relay. She was an All-Central Lakes Conference swimmer in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free relay and honorable mention All-CLC in the 400 free relay.

Senior Julia Wilmesmeier earned Alexandria’s Hardest Worker Award, while sophomore Jisella Haskamp earned the Golden Goggle Award. Like Galloway, Haskamp qualified for four state events in the 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay and 100 breaststroke. Her fifth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke was the Cardinals’ top finish at the state meet.

Josie Hergott won the Team Spirit Award, and Sara Avanzi rounded out the team-award winners by taking home the Rookie Award.

Alexandria finished the season undefeated in dual meets, and also won the CLC and Section 6A championships.
