Lightning is suspected of causing a house fire near Osakis Sunday morning, July 12.
At about 7 a.m., the Douglas County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call about smoke in the home of Paulette Buffham at 1027 Trisco Cove Court SE.
All residents were able to safely evacuate the home and were not injured.
The Osakis Fire Department responded and found smoke and a small fire coming from the crawlspace under the home. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire with little to no structural damage to the house, other than minor smoke damage, according to the sheriff's office.
The Osakis Fire Department attempted to find the cause of the fire, and its preliminary investigation suggests it was caused by a lightning strike.
Assisting at the scene were the Osakis Fire Department, sheriff's office, and the American Red Cross.
