Empress Theatre reopens. There was a full house at the opening of the Empress Theatre last night and the production “The Turn in the Road” was a good one. The interior remodeling of the theatre has greatly added to the appearance, convenience and comfort of the show house.
OHS Senior Class joins the “Overall Club.” The Senior Class of Osakis High School (OHS) has decided to beat the high cost of living by wearing black caps and gowns for graduation, thus saving them the expense of purchasing graduating gowns and outfits.
Townley to campaign Minnesota in new $10,000 airplane. A.C. Townley is going to sail over Minnesota’s 86 counties in a new $10,000 airplane. A pilot, drawing $100 a week, will convoy Townley to farmers’ meetings previously arranged. The Review will notify all when the big plane will be visiting our county areas.

Fairhaven Resort sold. Fairhaven Resort was sold this week to L.D. Huston and Del Sand of St. Cloud and will be open for the season beginning Memorial Day weekend. Fairhaven was formerly owned by Robert Wellams.
Census shows Douglas County up by 1,300 people. The preliminary population figures for the county were recently announced with Douglas County showing an increase in population of 1,300 people. The district manager of the 1970 Census expressed his own and the Census Bureau’s thanks to the residents of the area, to officials, newspapers and the broadcasting stations for their cooperation in the taking of the Census here.
74 seniors to receive diplomas. A class of 74 Osakis High School seniors will receive their diplomas at commencement exercises to be held at the high school auditorium Saturday evening, May 23. Valedictorian of the class is Howard Helge, Salutatorian is Shirley Braeger. Dr. Galen R. Hason, Author of “A New Day,” is chosen Commencement Speaker.

Three men rescued from Lake Osakis. Three men were rescued from Lake Osakis on Friday afternoon when their 14 ft. boat overturned a half mile out from shore in a sudden thunderstorm. Cries for help were heard at Idlewilde Resort and a boat was taken out from there and the men brought to shore. The men were transported to the Douglas County Hospital where they were treated and released.
Aaron Johnson named to All State Jazz Band on bass. Aaron John has been named one of only two electric bass guitarists in the prestigious 1995 All State Jazz Band. Aaron plays electric bass guitar in the Osakis High School Concert Band, his fourth year with the instrument as well as the OHS Jazz Band.
Donna Casperson dies in one car accident. Donna (Oree) Casperson, 36, rural Osakis died in a one-vehicle accident at 1:23 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16. She was northbound on Todd County Rd. 51 when the accident occurred, according to the Todd County Sheriff’s Department. She was found pinned under the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. She and her husband, Paul, had recently moved from Sauk Centre to Osakis.

No kidding, goat offered as raffle prize. The Osakis Women’s Association (OWA) is selling tickets to win a real live billy goat. The drawing will be held at Park Osagi Saturday, June 19, during the Osakis Festival.
Mock crash. A somber stage was set for Osakis High School upperclassmen who witnessed the mock crash May 14. The staged setting showed what it would be like if their classmates were in a tragic accident. Volunteer emergency personnel were involved in presenting the mock crash to the students.
Osakis is Prairie champs. The Zimmel girls made life hard for the Prairie Conference sofball opponents this year. Both Kiera Zimmel and Sabrina Zimmel have been mainstays on the mound for the Osakis Silverstreaks, who captured the Prairie Conference championship Monday and earned them the top seed in the Section 5A-West softball tournament.
