OSAKIS — The Osakis City Council heard a positive report on its audit for the year 2022 at its regular meeting on Monday, March 13.
Dean Birkeland, CPA with CarlsonSV, said there were no difficulties in performing the audit, and that the city's records were "in great order."
"You can't get a better opinion from another auditor, another firm," Birkeland said. "That's as good as we can give as auditors."
The City of Osakis reports on what is called the regulatory basis of accounting, which is allowed by the state for cities that are under 2,500 in population, Birkeland said.
"It's a good option for cities — many of our cities take advantage of that. It eliminates some of the additional paperwork that's required if you report on a full accrual basis," he said.

The city has governmental funds and enterprise funds, which are things like water and sewer, Birkeland said.
The governmental funds held steady last year, while the enterprise funds saw an increase overall, he said.
While the audit itself is complete, the city is waiting on the state to issue compliance guides, Birkeland said.
"We don't expect anything to change, but we can't issue the final report until we get those guides," he said.
The city council also heard from Douglas County Public Works Director Tim Erickson, who spoke about a plan to resurface sections of First Avenue East and Lake Street.
"It's a mill and an overlay," Erickson said. "We're going to mill out two inches, we're going to put back the two inches. It's all strictly resurfacing."
The affected crosswalks and curb ramps will also be looked at, and updated if necessary, he said.
Congestion outside the school will also be looked into, Erickson said.

Information provided to the council members said the project will be completed with state aid money.
