Letter: Why hasn't Herberger's or JCPenney in Alexandria been replaced?

To the editor:

While I’m grateful for the shopping opportunities in Alexandria, I’m absolutely bewildered why we have not gotten any new stores to replace the loss of Herberger's and JCPenney!

I live in Glenwood but work in Alexandria and do a great deal of shopping there. However, if I want a clothing item, small appliance or quality bedding, I have to drive to St. Cloud.

It seems like a no brainer that Alexandria could use and support a store like Kohl’s, Marshall’s, or TJ Maxx. I have to believe the city is losing a great deal of revenue by not pursuing one of these types of stores. Please, consider this idea and save us a lot of travel time while you gain lots of new business.
