To the editor:
When I saw the headline of Jared Rubado’s (Nov. 27) column, “A gut punch for athletes,” I thought this would be another story about how our athletes were again being victimized by COVID. And indeed they have been. To have possible state tournament visits suddenly taken away Is heartbreaking for these students and as the article stated, we do need to sympathize and empathize with these young people.
But it was the rest of the commentary that was thought provoking. Perhaps if we had ALL taken this virus seriously from the beginning, ALL of us wearing masks, ALL of us socially distancing, not politicizing this disease ( I bet COVID is an “independent!), we (and our athletes) would not be in this terrible situation we are in today. If you can, please reread Mr. Rubado’s commentary , especially the last two paragraphs. Very well said, Jared!
