To the editor:
Donald Trump ran on the theme that only he could fix the nation’s problems. Now we have a big problem, COVID-19. We need our president to display leadership which unites everyone in our great country while we battle the virus. We do not want our president to pit states against each other or against the federal government. We do not need our president to urge us to observe social distancing as outlined in his plan for reopening our economy and then tweeting “liberate MN” on that same day.
This president seems to have no problems with demonstrators ignoring social distancing simply because they are carrying signs supporting his reelection.
The experts agree testing is the key to reopening our economy. Governors of both parties agree the shortage of tests is a major hurdle in bringing our economy back. We need a president who is willing to take on this task in order to solve the testing problem. We do not need a president who says, “Anyone who wants a test can get it” on March 6 and then on April 16 declare it is up to the states to solve the testing dilemma.
Most of all we want a president who is courageous and willing to say, “The buck stops with me,” not, “The blame gets passed on to others, China, World Health Organization, Democratic governors or anybody but me.”
